The Art of Creative Music is an instrumental workshop designed to introduce band students to creative music making. In collaboration with the Kamloops Music Collective and Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, Youth Musicians will explore composition and improvisation in a fun, safe environment. At the end of the workshop, musicians will be invited to participate in a Pro-Amateur Jam with Kamloops Symphony Orchestra musicians. As an ensemble they will read through contemporary orchestral repertoire. This is a great way to expand your skills in ensemble playing and develop a unique voice on your instrument.
Graphic Scores are the representation of music through the use of visual symbols outside the realm of traditional music notation. Blending art and music together, it allows for experimentation with new sounds. The visual cues of the score become a guide, or music map, for improvising musicians.

Presented with the generous support of the Kamloops Symphony.
DIY Moog: How to Build your own Synth
In collaboration with Kamloops Makerspace
Participants: This program is perfect for students in grades 5-10. No experience needed!
Date: October 16th
Time: 1:00pm - 4:30pm
Location: Kamloops United Church
Cost: $25
Instructors: Bailey Finley, Nicholas Adams
About the Program: In collaboration with the Makerspace and KMC, participants will learn how to build their own synthesizer and amplifier with an electronic breadboard. With guidance from a Makerspace Member and KMC instructor, participants will experiment with electronics and sound. They will create a type of synthesizer called an Oscillator.
Oscillation itself is the production of a certain type of ‘wave’, which produces a different sound depending on the shape of the wave. At higher pitches it creates a constant note, at lower pitches you will hear a more ‘crackled’ sound. The wave you will make is a square wave. Participants are encouraged to join in DIY Musical Scores with their new synth!
