Musical Theatre Fundamentals
A series of workshops designed to work on Musical Theatre fundamentals!

This program is perfect for youth who have finished grades 4-11 who are interested in developing their skills for musical theatre. The program would be particularly useful for kids who intend to take Musical Theatre at KISSM 2023, but is great for any young performer. The program is open to youth of all experience levels, small groups will be created when necessary in order to give everyone a great experience! 
Dates: July 4th- 7th 2023
Time: 11:00am - 3:00pm daily

About the Program: Aimed at young artists with a passion for singing, dancing, and acting, KMC’s Musical Theatre Fundamentals class will introduce and coach participants through some of the most important aspects of Musical Theatre productions.  Topics covered will include, reading and understanding scripts, character development, vocal health, understanding how to engage in a musical theatre class, choreography, and what to expect when you sign up for Musical Theatre at KISSM and more!    

The emphasis of this class will be uncovering the process of Musical Theatre and guiding participants through all the aspects of Musical Theatre Class.  
Beyond practical application in the theatre, students who finish this program will have discovered more self-confidence, more respect for their talents and greater engagement with the musical theatre world around them.

Sounds of Summer At KISSM
A collaboration Drumline program between Kamloops Music Collective and Yamaha Canada Music!

Interested in drumline or drumming in general? This 1 week program is perfect for students in grade 6-12, who are passionate about drumming, or who are interested in exploring this dynamic and unique art form. The Kamloops Music Collective is excited to be partnering with Yamaha Canada Music to bring Michael Beauclerc, a professional drummer, percussionist, composer, and author in Canada, in to teach this program. Students will benefit from learning from this experienced and talented clinician, all while getting to experience the exciting environment of the Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music (KISSM)! KISSM is an intensive 3 week program that draws hundreds of participants for 3 weeks in July and includes theme days, morning performances, lunchtime performance opportunities, and most importantly, and incredibly fun atmosphere. By taking part in The Sounds of Summer, students will get to participate in KISSM's morning performance, spirit days, lunch, and an elective offered by KISSM Faculty to learn more about other types of percussion playing, like marimba and djembe!

About the Instructor:

Michael Beauclerc is a drummer, percussionist, singer, composer, and author in Canada. He is also a busy marching percussion clinician for Yamaha Canada Music, having performed over 400 clinics from coast to coast. Michael is the Executive Director of the Canadian Drumline Association, and percussion head/arranger for many scholastic ensembles. He is also the designer and owner of Mad Practice Pads. Michael Beauclerc is an Artist/Clinician for Yamaha Drums & Percussion, Vic Firth sticks & mallets, Sabian cymbals, and REMO drumheads.

The Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music
A 3 week summer music camp!

This program is perfect for youth aged 5-18, of all experience levels! 
Dates: July 10-28, 2023 (Monday to Friday)

About the program:

The Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music (KISSM) has been inspiring young people to follow their passion for music and the arts since 1978! Every July emerging musicians gather for our three-week music program, which is led by music educators and professionals, with additional support from university students who have a love of music.

 

The Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music (KISSM) provides music students with the “key” to the development of artistic excellence in our community. Young musicains who come to KISSM benefit from professional guidance and mentorship. They learn about excellence in performing and producing music for your community. They are given the opportunity to network with like-minded musicians to uncover available opportunities for sustaining their artistic development.

About the Program: Get ready to sing, dance, play, and enjoy the fun and the sun of Summer! This energizing week of music will get kids moving, playing instruments, learning new songs, and exploring new musical styles.  This is a musical experience your kids won't want to miss!  Participants will expand their knowledge and skills on a variety of instruments including: djembe drums, boomwhackers and musical theatre. Kids will also participate in movement activities and explore their creative sides!

Musical Theatre Production: Disney's Aladdin Jr. Musical Theatre Production
Instructor:  Brittany Zettergreen

About the Program:  Imagine a day filled with musical theatre, set design, instrument exploration, musical games and friends! At the A Whole New World musical theatre week,  we will teach musical theatre fundamentals that help students shine on stage and in all aspects of their lives. This camp is perfect for kids in grades 3-8, beginners are welcome!
​Enroll the kids in a Performing Arts Camp that is modeled after our popular summer program, the Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music! Kids who take part will get to explore many aspects of musical theatre and music exploration. 


About the Show: The story you know and love has been given the royal treatment! Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character. With expanded characters, new songs, and more thrills, this new adaptation of the beloved story will open up “a whole new world” for your young performers!

As a non-profit organization, the Kamloops Music Collective is committed to making our programming accessible to as many children and youth in our communities as possible. Our financial assistance programs have helped hundreds of children to register in tuition-based programs at a reduced rate.  Applications for financial assistance are open to everyone. Your privacy matters to us. All applications are held in confidence. To apply, please click the registration link below. 

 

If you would like to pursue further funding, we recommend looking into the Boogie the Bridge Cultural Fund (BBCF). This is a community-based cultural funding program established in 2005 providing grants for children ages 5 to 18 who are in need of financial assistance to have the opportunity to participate in cultural programs in Kamloops.
