The Kamloops Music Collective's Summer Series!

The Kamloops Music Collective is pleased to announce a series of 1 week programs this summer.  Our goal is to offer fun educational music programs that meet the needs of local kids and parents in a safe and healthy way.  These programs will be held at the SKSS Band Room with strict maximum registration numbers and new COVID19 protocols in place.  We are currently offering parents the opportunity to register your child(ren) for these programs without any payment.  Once we are able to confirm that the programs will be able to proceed (we will be adhearing to guidance fro the Provincial Health Officer) we will be invoicing everyone who has registered for full payment.  Payment will be required within 5 days of the invoice and spots are not guaranteed until payment is received.

Playing with Animals

August 17th - 21st

Prerequisite:  Finished kindergarten to grade 3 (going into Grade 1–4).

Maximum number of participants: 18

Time: 9am - 2:30 pm daily

Location: Kamloops United Church,  423 St Paul St, Kamloops BC

Cost: $200

Instructor: Jordan Baker

A Week at the Zoo - A Music Makers Program

Roar like a lion, slither like a snake, dance like a monkey, and come and play with us!  This week, we will focus on activities dances and stories featuring our furry (and sometimes slimy!) animal friends.  Our young Zookeepers will expand their knowledge and skills on a variety of instruments including djembe drums, boomwhackers, and ukuleles.

 

Participants should bring a lunch, two snacks, and a full water bottle (in containers labelled with their name) every day.  Outdoor activities will take place each day; please apply sunblock to your child at the start of the day.
 

Music Class

July 27th -31st

Prerequisite: finished grade 5–8 (going into Grade 6–9) and keenly interested in learning to play a concert band instrument. 

Maximum number of participants: 18

Time: 9am - 12pm daily

Location: South Kamloops Secondary Band Room 

Cost: $125

Instructor: Jaymi Daniels

Intro to Band - Beginner Band Program

This course is for young musicians who want to learn how to play a Concert Band instrument (Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Braitone, Tuba.)  Students will benefit from small group sectionals and Concert Band instruction.  We will have a selection of band instruments available for the young musicians; please indicate your child's choice of instrument when registering.  Please note that the numbers of each type of instrument are limited; your child may also rent or bring their own instrument.

 

Participants should bring a snack and a water bottle each day.
 

Pinwheel Kids

A Week at the Beach - A Music Makers Program

This program encourages our youngest musicians to explore a variety of musical activities related to the beach!  If you think it’s hot outside, just wait ‘til you get to the beach!  Young musicians will learn a variety of favourite summer activities. Kids will have the opportunity to explore music in an interactive and supportive environment.  Participants will expand their knowledge and skills on a variety of instruments including:  djembe drums, boomwhackers, ukuleles and recorders. 

Participants should bring a lunch, two snacks, and a full water bottle each day in containers labelled with their name.  Outdoor activities will take place each day; please apply sunblock to your child at the start of the day.

Empty Orchestra Stage

July 27th -31st

Prerequisites: Finished grade 8–11 (going into Grade 9–12). Must have completed at least one year in their school band program.

Maximum number of participants: 18

Time: 12:30pm - 3:30pm daily

Location: South Kamloops Secondary Band Room 

Cost: $125

Band Intensive Program

This course is for musicians who already play a concert band instrument. Students will strengthen their playing muscles, be exposed to music in different styles, and get a great head start to next year’s Band class at school.  Some sectional work will be included.  This is a great ensemble for students who wish to gain experience and become key players in their school ensembles. Please send us an email if you would like to discuss your child’s suitability for this program.

Participants should bring a lunch, two snacks, and a full water bottle each day. 

Each student must bring their own instrument.

Colored Theatre Lights

Prerequisite: Finished grade 4–7 (going into Grade 5–8).

Maximum number of participants: 18

Time: 9am - 2:30 pm daily

Centre Stage - Musical Theatre Program

Are you ready to explore the magic of musicals? This camp will feature dances, and scenes from Broadway musical favourites that everyone will love. Kids will also gain knowledge in scene blocking, preparing for auditions, and character development.  

Participants should bring a lunch, two snacks, and a full water bottle each day. 

Theater Group

August 10th- 14th

Prerequisite: Finished grade 7–11 (going into Grade 8–12).

Maximum number of participants: 18

Time: 9am - 2:30 pm daily

Location: Sagebrush Theatre Lobby

Cost: $200

Musical Theatre Intensive Program

The Kamloops Music Collective is pleased to offer a 1-week musical theatre program that will inspire students to dive into what it means to be human and connect in an age of disconnection.  

 

Using the hit 1990’s musical RENT as a foundation, participants will dive deeper into what it means to live, love, and create in an age of fear and disconnection.  

 

Learning will centre around: 

 

  • preparing for auditions

  • successfully performing monologues

  • character development

  • choosing appropriate songs for auditions

  • deconstructing the structure of the musical 

  • tips and tricks about choreography   

 

Working with some of Kamloops’ finest students will explore the themes of human connection and love. Aspiring artists will learn to raise their voices and advocate for the world they will create.

 

This program is for youth who have finished grades 7-11. No experience is necessary, but we ask that the participants have a keen interest in Musical Theatre and a willingness to participate in activities. 3 spots remaining.

Vintage Radios

July 6th - 17th

Prerequisite: Finished grade 4 - 7

Time: 10:30 am - 11:45 am daily

The Kamloops Music Collective's Radio Show

This is a two week online opportunity for students to learn about old school Radio Shows! Students will collaborate and perform in a “readers theatre” style show taking place in a Zoom classroom setting. Kids will have the opportunity to expand their range of vocal techniques, work with sound effects and have a better understanding of the acting craft. The course will conclude with a live recording session where the students get to show their stuff!

Kamloops Music Collective Creative Troop.

Program Terms and Conditions

 

  1. There will be a limited number of spots in each of the one-week Summer Series programs.

  2. In order to proceed with each of the one-week Summer Series programs, we need to meet a minimum registration threshold two weeks before each program’s start date.  In the event that this threshold is not met, the program will be cancelled.   

  3. Given how quickly the situation is currently changing, we recognize that even if we collect payment and intend to proceed with the program, regulations could shift quickly and interfere with these plans. If payment has been received and we are forced to cancel, we will provide full refunds or credit for future programs

KMC Summer Series Cancellation Policy

 

In the unfortunate situation where the program needs to be cancelled on short notice due to health concerns, registrants are entitled to either a full refund (in the event that the program has not commenced) or a prorated amount (if the program is cancelled part way through the week)

Withdrawal Policy

 

In the event that you wish to withdraw your child from a program after you have paid the registration fee, a processing fee of $75 will be deducted from the refunded amount.   

Health and Safety

 

Due to recent concerns regarding COVID19, we require children to be 100% healthy to attend the program.  If your child has a fever or signs of a cold or flu, we will ask that they do not attend the program.  If a child develops symptoms of an illness during the day that child will be removed from the class and staff will contact parent/guardian to come and pick the child up.
